Surreal Morning

Surreal Morning

Sometimes, reality is amazing!!  This images were just as they appeared on a very special morning in Galveston!

Early Morning Colors

One Morning, as my husband and I were driving along Galveston Island in search of birds, we came across this surreal sight. The play of morning mist, the angle of the sunrise’s light, and the vegetation in the area all combined to make this a pastel morning view.

Morning Field

It was a misty morning, and the sun’s morning colors turned this view of a field into something magical.  It felt like my husband and I were driving through a fairy tale of some kind!

Morning Layers

The sun was rising in the morning sky, so colors were becoming more intense.  Still, the mist on the ground, stronger sun and fields along the horizon all combined to create a vibrant layered view of world around.

Morning Light

The pond was quiet.  The birds either hadn’t yet been or had been and were gone from their morning feed.  The mist was still clutching the shoreline shrubs, but the warm rays of the sun were there, reflected in the red orange of grasses along another part of the shore.

Enjoy!

Abstract Swimming

While swimming along Sombrero Reef down in the Florida Keys, I was able to capture this image of a zebra fish swimming along.  The waters were rather choppy, creating a lot of motion beneath them.  I decided to accent the wave of the sea grass, and created this rather abstract image of the fish swimming.

Enjoy!

Abstract Art at White Sands
On a recent camping trip, Jeff & I visited White Sands National Monument.  We’ve been there before, but for me, every visit is like visiting it anew.  The sands shift constantly with the wind, so it’s like it’s getting created and re-created all the time.  Some of the images that I shot truly seemed like abstract, modern art and that reminded me of some Georgia O’Keeffe art I’ve seen over the years.  Now, I’m not anywhere the artist that Georgia was, but I was reminded of her for these pieces, so I decided to assign some of her quotes to them as comments instead of my own words –
Abstract Mountains and Dunes
“I found I could say things with color and shapes that I couldn't say any other way - things I had no words for.”
Stark Horizon
“It was all so far away - there was quiet and an untouched feel to the country and I could work as I pleased.”
Simple Lines in the Sand
“I said to myself, I have things in my head that are not like what anyone has taught me - shapes and ideas so near to me - so natural to my way of being and thinking that it hasn't occurred to me to put them down.”
Texture to Infinity
“I had to create an equivalent for what I felt about what I was looking at - not copy it.”
Lines in the Sand
“You get whatever accomplishment you are willing to declare.”
See the Wind
“I often painted fragments of things because it seemed to make my statement as well as or better than the whole could.”
Enjoy!

Abstract Art – Sea Floor
There was something quite magical about snorkeling in the Bahamas.  One big piece was how clear the water was.  As I swam around looking down for multicolored fish, I couldn’t help but notice what a wonderful background the sandy sea floor provided.  And, then when I looked closer, I saw the lovely shapes and designs created by the waves rolling over the sea floor.
Abstract Sand at Bottom of Sea
I don’t know how the shading and lines could have been drawn more perfectly than to create this wonderfully peaceful feeling image.  I only know I had nothing to do with it!
Sea Bottom Abstract
I don’t know exactly what caused the color variation – perhaps a bit of broken reef or sea weed that is just starting to grow from the sea floor.  The ironic thing about this is that when I was snorkeling, I wasn’t wearing my glasses, so what I saw was a blurry version of these images.  I’m glad to say they look even better when seeing them with 20/20 vision!
Leaf Impression in Sea Bottom
I don’t really know if that truly is an impression of a leaf in the upper right of this image, but it certainly looks like it could be.  However, I have no idea where any leaf of this shape and size could have been, as there were none in the area.
Sunshine on Sea Bottom
As I mentioned before, the water was remarkably clear and it was very easy to actually see the sun shining thru the water down to the sea floor.  It created the lovely shading that you see in this image.
Enjoy!

Colorful Rock Art
When I think of rock art, being from the Southwest, I can’t help but think of the art drawn on the walls of canyons or caves by ancient people.  This rock art, though, is not made by man, either recent or ancient.  It’s something that Nature has provided.
Ernst Canyon Colorful Art
Recently, as I explored Big Bend National Park, I found this brilliantly colored rock at my feet as I walked through Ernst Canyon.  I was in what is called a tinaja, but the show Nature was putting on wasn’t only on the walls of the canyon – it was on the floor as well.  I loved the colors of the rock, the blend of the lights and darks, pinks and purples, and also how the cracks in the rocks added a sort of dramatic tension to the piece.
Abstract Rock Art
I find this piece to be spectacular in both color and design, and take no credit for either!  Again, I photographed the art at my feet.  The lines, circles and perfect balance of color is something that Nature put there for me to discover, and I’m glad I was looking down at this moment!  It reminds me of a painting or collage of lovely hand-dyed paper that I would be proud to call my own.  Instead, I simply provided the mechanics of capturing this natural abstract art with my camera.
Enjoy!
