Tasting Flight
This piece is based on an air race I watched recently.  I photographed the planes as they flew by the time check point for the final segment of the race.  Early in the morning of the second day of the race, I was lucky enough to capture the image that is the basis for this piece.  A small plane flying past the rising sun.  I came across a quote from Leonardo Da Vinci, where he said “Once you have tasted flight, you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards….”  That seems to be true for most pilots I know.  I added the quote in the background of this piece and then finished it off with some special brush effects, to emphasize the feel of flight thru the wispiness of clouds.

Truth Shines In
When exploring in our home state of New Mexico, my husband & I came across this door, or rather, this wall, with a door in it.  What struck me about this wall was how it was still standing, while apparently very sound structurally.  After all, the light was shining in at almost all the seams where the wood boards were joined.  The color was warm and lovely, and truly accented the light nicely.  It made me think about all that one hears in today’s world.  What is true? What is assumption?  What is an outright lie?  Sometimes they all sound the same, all are believable.  The key, I feel, is to listen with your heart.  When you do that, the truth will shine in.

Adobe Wall
Recently, I toured Georgia O’Keeffe’s home and studio in the little village of Abiquiu, New Mexico.  This piece is influenced by that tour and visit into the surroundings in which she lived her life.  She had incredible talent, and a look at her art reflected great diversity – from stark complexity to stark simplicity.  This piece is focused on simplicity.  The color of the adobe, converted from photograph to painting, reflects all the nuances of our current life, whatever it may be.  Shades and tones are what makes it interesting.  The window reflects what is unknown, what is left to be.  It’s whatever we make of it.

Just Living…

This piece was inspired by a recent visit to a National Monument in New Mexico, called Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks.  As we walked the trails there, I came across this manzanita shrub bloom.  I believe the quote that I found mirrors what I often share with people – live your life to the fullest.  Don’t “just live” – seek to live your life to the fullest – seek beauty, experience all that you can and make yourself open and free to new things.

Haunted Impressions
Recently, Jeff and I spent time exploring the back roads in Texas, near the town of Fredericksburg.  We located a number of old one-room country schoolhouses, many of which were in a state of disrepair.  One image that I took of a window in one of the buildings reminded me of someplace that could possibly be haunted.  For this piece, I decided to run with that idea and added a hazy image of a small child as a ghost that still lives on in the building.  Various other digital collage backgrounds and effects were added to add to the overall feel of this piece.
