Dawn on the Beach

Dawn on the Beach

Sometimes, getting up really early has its rewards like the day I photographed the sunrise on Galveston Beach!!

Daybreak Flight

It’s truly quilte peaceful to watch the seagulls flying over the shore along the beach, periodically diving to capture breakfast.  With the sun just breaking over the horizon, it’s truly a moment that one carries throughout the rest of the day.

Early Morning

This view was the reward for rising early in the morning.  A walk on the beach, watching the sunrise.  I can’t think of a more peaceful way to begin the day!

Morning Flight

The morning was just quiet enough to be able to hear the seagull’s wings as he took flight.  The waves seemed to be willing to give him the spotlight for the moment, and the sun hadn’t yet risen to assume its place as star of this morning show.

Seagull Morning

It’s dawn, before daybreak, and a lone seagull is on morning patrol.  He’s silhouetted against the light blue of the sky and seems impervious to the beauty behind him.  It reminded me of how frequently we take nature’s beauty for granted.

Enjoy!

Beachy Sketches

While visiting the Florida Keys, several photographic images seemed to work best when I converted them to digital watercolor sketches.  Take a look – I hope you agree.
Beach Bums

Between our camping site, and the beach, were beach grasses.  The grasses served to give both my husband and I and those on the beach a level of privacy.  As I looked out to the beach, I could only see the tops of the heads (and hats) of those who were enjoying a lovely day on the beach.
Sunrise Coast

Early mornings were quite lovely at the beach where my husband and I camped in the Florida Keys.  One of the things I liked the best were that often, the sunrises were more pastel than brilliant in nature.  Can’t you just see yourself walking along this solitary shore?
Heading down the Keys

Often in the mornings along the shore in the Florida Keys, one could see fishing boats heading out, taking customers out for a day of sun, sea, and hopefully, fish!  They seemed to space themselves so that each boat created its own peaceful view.

Enjoy!

Fort Myers Beach Sketches

While visiting my brother and sister-in-law at their getaway place in Fort Myers, we took a walk down in the small community of Fort Myers beach.  The colors and people made for great subjects for some digital watercolor sketches..

Fort Myers Beach Street

Palm trees, colorful buildings and blue skies what more does one need for a great sketch of a beach town?  Wandering down toward the beach in Fort Myers Beach, I was drawn to this scene and all the fun and relaxation it suggests!

Bright Beach

As I walked up the wharf along Fort Myers Beach, the colorful beach umbrellas were reminders of all that is fun and relaxing about life!  It was hard to feel a moment of worry while looking at all the cheery colors that seemed to dance in the breeze along the beachy shore!

This scene feels traditionally beachy to me, not because of the great blue skies, the glimpses of water, or the bright beach umbrellas.  It’s the beach grass in the foreground of the sketch that really does it for me.  I can just feel it swaying in the gentle onshore breeze.

Enjoy!

Beach and Harbor Pencil Sketches
At St. Martins, New Brunswick, we stayed at a campground that was literally steps from the beach and a short drive to a charming fishing village.  Some of the images I took from this area just begged to be converted into digital watercolor pencil sketches – how could I refuse?
One of the nice things about the campground where we stayed in St. Martins was that it was practically on the beach.  There was this footbridge that crossed over a small water channel to the actual beach, and it made for a lovely sketch.  Looks rather inviting!
To the Beach
The harbor at St. Martins is very close to an old no longer used covered bridge.  I love the bright colors that the fishing boats are often painted, and the boat in this sketch is no different – a bright aqua color!
St. Martins’ Harbor
This wider view of the harbor at St. Martins, in New Brunswick, shows two fishing boats in for the day.  Their bright color is in sharp contrast to the weathered wood of the surrounding dock and old covered bridge.
Seaside Village
There are actually two covered bridges in St. Martins, NB.  One is no longer in use, but this one is still used, altho it’s only a one-lane bridge, so cars have to be polite and take turns going over it!  It’s a charming touch to this small village.

Best of Maui – Part II
This is the second grouping of images that make up my favorites from our recent trip to Maui.  Sit back, put up your feet, and take a look……
Grace
A waterfall in slow motion is truly the definition of the word “grace”.  Although there is power behind the flow, it feels as if it’s just gentle falling, kissing the rocks it passes over.  Its power is hidden behind a mask of grace.
Hana Highway Bridge
There are many bridges along the road to Hana, on the island of Maui, Hawaii.  Many of them have such character, as does this one.  The combination of rain, humidity, and warm temperatures are excellent conditions for creating a lovely rusty patina on the pillars of these bridges.  Add to that the vibrant green of the moss that then grows on them, and you have a sort of tropical Christmas reminder!
Hana Town Coast
The town of Hana is truly only the halfway point on the Road to Hana.  After all, one must get back to the beginning point of travel!  But, it’s nice to take a few moments to just sit and enjoy the rocky coastline of Hana, with gentle waters caressing the tree lined shore.  Another view of paradise.
Hawaiian Gold
As my husband and I drove around the island of Maui, Hawaii, we came across a field of sunflowers.  There was a gentle breeze, enough so that all of their sunny faces were turned in the same direction, as if they were all interested in what was going on in the next field over.  Combined with the mountain and blue sky in the background, it made for a picture-perfect setting.
Looking out to Sea
Walking along a beach in Hawaii, I came across this uprooted tree with its branches pointing out to sea.  It almost seemed to be watching for some lonely sailor to return home.  The gnarled roots of the tree are in contrast to relatively calm sea, and gentle clouds in the sky.
Old Sentry
There’s something about a large piece of driftwood that intrigues me.  Where did it come from, how did it get to this section of vegetation deserted shoreline?  And, more basically, what type of tree was it?  Whatever the answer to those questions may be, it seemed to be acting as a sentry, watching for any incoming travelers, and very content with its new role!
Peaceful
The sound of water as it gently flows over river rocks creates such a wonderful sense of peace.  If one just sits, listens and watches the flow of the water, all troubles seem to fade away.  Meditation with nature at its best.
Enjoy!
