Rainy Day Commute
One day, while exploring a national park in New Mexico, Bandelier National Park, Jeff & I found ourselves following a rather old, sort of beater type car, just moseying along at a very slow, leisurely pace.  We weren’t in any real hurry, so we just patiently followed behind.  It was a rainy day, so all the colors were quite vivid, and I was taken by commentary the color of the car was to its surroundings, and captured this image of a sort of creaky looking car.  I then processed it using my High Dynamic Range (HDR) software to accentuate the colors in the image and made it the focus of this piece.  I added some textured background to the piece.  I also added some tree and bubble brushes to the piece.  Trees because we were in a forest, and the bubbles reminded me of the raindrops that were ever present on this day.  So, sit back and imagine where this little old car may have been driving along this forest road.

The Path Less Taken
I had been thinking about the Robert Frost poem “The Road Less Traveled” and I remembered an image I captured a few years back when my husband, Jeff, and I were walking in the woods not far from where we live in New Mexico.  The image was of a path in the woods, one that clearly was not taken very often by hikers.  And, yet, it held great promise, with sunlight glimmering up ahead, just out of view.  The image that is the foundation of this piece brings the feeling of that poem to mind.  Sometimes, it is the path that not many have taken that will yield the best rewards in life, but only if we chance it and follow it.  As Robert Frost said, it can make all the difference.

Falcon Flight
For this piece, I merged two different photo images – one I took of a lonely country road in winter, and the other of a falcon I took a year  or so ago.  I decided to give the falcon top billing, so to speak, for this piece, just because the image of him with his wings totally extended is so magnificent.  To add a bit of interest to the background, I blended in a page of Asian text, and then added some grunge effects to the piece overall.  I truly believe it allows the grace of this bird to be spotlighted in a wonderful way.

Raindrops on Roses
One fall, my husband and I visited Napa.  When I shot this image, it was a rainy fall day and the raindrops were everywhere, including on the roses!  I love the overall feeling of peace that this piece has, and the quiet stillness that allows the raindrops to perch rather than run off, makes me inadvertently hold my breath.  I hope you, too, can enjoy the tranquility.

California Waterlilies
On a trip to San Diego to visit friends, I took a photo of some waterlilies in a local landscape pond.  I played with the initial processing and applied a painterly effect.  I then decided to apply a filter to add a touch of abstract to the piece.  I purposefully kept the waterlilies in focus, without the liquefy effect.  There’s a tension between the calm of the flowers and the distortion of the leaves that I like.  Kind of like life!
